Live report: 13th Sky and Sindicato Vertical Club Gallows @ Genghis Cohen March 17, 2023

The covid-13 lockdown left a lot of people, including myself, feeling lethargic and used to going to work and then going home and that’s all. I was planning on doing my usual Friday evening routine of deciding whether or not to watch AEW wrestling when I got a message from Stephen of 13th Sky. He said they were playing at Genghis Cohen and since it is not far from my abode and I’ve had a good evening there before and since 13th Sky kicks some butt I decided to go and enjoy a Goth night out.
13th Sky is a band that appeals to Goth fans but in a way, they are much more than that. They have much more in common with a band like Lords Of The New Church than say The Cure. A trio that uses pre-programmed tracks with percussion and bass, onstage they are two guitars and a singer. But these aren’t really your usual Goth guitars.
The riffs in this band are influenced by bands like Ramones in that they are aggressive while keeping in the darkness. Their singer, Bino, was playful with the audience in a way that most Goth singers wouldn’t dare be but it worked and the audience loved it. If you haven’t seen them check out 13th Sky. Since I missed the first couple of bands I thought I should stick around for the headliner band.
They were called Sindicato Vertical from Spain. They were a duo and they also used a backing track for percussion and had a singer and a guitarist. Their sound was interesting in that they make music that is danceable and they incorporate a surf guitar sound into things.
It’s a great sound and they really stood out. With the singer doing dance moves between lyrics its hard to stay still while enjoying them.
