The Hellflowers: Taking Over The World

Interview By: Ginger Coyote

I have been a huge fan of The Hellflowers for quite a few years now. I decided to catch up with Christina Hellflower and ask her a few questions.

The Hellflowers are a BAD ASS BAND. They Rawk hard and are fun…. Check them out!!!

Punk Globe: Thanks so much for the interview. I remember the first time I saw you at La Cita; you were great. I messaged you about doing a show with White Trash Debutantes at Los Globos. Sadly, you were booked already.

Punk Globe: Who are some of your influences?

Christina: My number 1 will always be David Bowie. We love early punk like The New York Dolls, Ramones, X-Ray Spex, but our influences extend to Joy Division and Suede.

Punk Globe: Who is in the band currently?

Christina: Christina Hellflower, Matt Eskew, Alex Mack, and Stevyn Grey

Punk Globe: I then saw you at The Redwood; you played with Bite, and I was so impressed. Then I heard you moved up in the Bay Area and saw you both at our show at The Ivy Room; now I see The Hellflowers are taking over the World

Christina: Thanks, Ginger!

Punk Globe:  Tell the readers about your move to the Bay Area; you had such a strong fan base in Los Angeles.

Christina: We made the decision to move up to the Bay Area to Care for Matt’s dad. We miss L.A.  so much, but we feel like we have a duty to do right now, and we are taking care of business.  We may be back in L.A.  someday.  Alex and Stevyn are still there,  so we make many trips back down.  And yes, we love miss our friends and fans! There’s no place quite like it!

Punk Globe: Did any of the other band members make the move as well?

Christina: No, just Matt and me.  His dad was all alone and had lots of health problems and really needed us.

Punk Globe: Are you still a G.G.AllIn fan, Christina?

Christina: Yes,, as far as the music and the ethos. Not so much the poop.

Punk Globe: The White Trash Debutantes opened for him. We kept a safe distance away from the stage.  While he was doing his show, however, Jello Biafra and I were invited backstage, where we were drenched in his poop. Here is the video I sprayed us both with Pleasures perfume. It was so funny after the show, people asked Biafra about the perfume he had on.

Punk Globe: Do you work with a booking agent, and tell us about your tour to Europe?

Christina: We don’t currently have a booking agent. We are actively searching for one now because after 11 years, we feel like we have done as much as we could on our own.  Our three UK tours were awesome. And we do have a couple of agents out there that we work with.  We aren’t going this year, and we’re gonna miss it, so we will definitely be back next year.

Punk Globe: What does the future hold for The Hellflowers? Tours? Recording?

Christina: So, we are currently recording our 3rd full-length album.  The first single should be out in August.  And we plan on touring extensively next year to support the new album.

Punk Globe: Can you give the readers Internet Addresses to get the latest updates on The Hellflowers?
