The Versatile and Talented Dan Banura of Since We Were Kids
Interview By John Wisniewski
In this interview Dan speaks about Since We Were Kids influences, the state of punk, and the bands latest releases. And lots of other fun facts…
Punk Globe: when did the band form, Dan? Please tell us the story.
Dan: The band started as a studio band in 2012. It was never supposed to be a real thing.
We were just having fun with it. In 2013 we decided to start playing shows and taking it more serious.
Punk Globe: who are some of your favorite punk bands?
Dan: Our favorite artists growing up over the years range from RKL, Poison Idea, Suicidal Tendencies, we favored the more aggressive stuff over the poppy stuff.
Punk Globe: What are the live shows like? Who have you opened up for?
Dan: Our live shows are always a blast! We play a lot of skate events which are really fun.
Some of the bands we have played with are Agent Orange, DFL, Guttermouth, TSOL, Slapshot, Poison Idea, Strung Out, JFA, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Dr.Know and Dead Kennedys.
Punk Globe: Rad Dan love all those bands … Any new releases that you could tell us about?
Dan: We are actually working on a new studio album that will contain six new songs. It will be coming out on Irish Voodoo Records. We are also rerecording a bunch of old stuff from the first 7″ and 12″. That will be a joint release through Free Swilley Records and Irish Voodoo Records. Free Swilley Records put out the split with 13th Legion. Next year we will be working on a new full length as well.
Punk Globe: Is punk still a thriving force for you?
Dan: In terms of lifestyle, yes. We still do what we want. We are still a DIY band. We make and record all our own music. We still print all of our own merch. We press and make all of our own skateboards. Punk in general nowadays is not rebellious. You gotta walk on egg shells with what you say. It definitely has changed from how it was when we were growing up…
Punk Globe: any future plans infor the rest of the year and 2023 Dan?
Dan: We plan on getting back to Hawaii and start touring the states more. Who knows, maybe get some international stuff going. We’re always trying to stay busy. That’s what keeps this going. I know we will be working on a new full length record after we release this record.
Punk Globe: Thanks for the interview Dan !
