August 2025 – The Anti Groupie Band

The Anti Groupie Band

Interview By: Ginger Coyote

Joe Black recommended that Punk Globe interview the band.

Punk Globe: I have been hearing a lot about your band. My friend, Kathleen Wirt, whose studio you recently recorded at, raved about The Anti Groupies. Thanks for the interview

Thank you!!!

Punk Globe: Who are some of the bands’ inspirations?

We all love Paramore, Queens of the Stonage, Blondie, the B52s, etc.  Our drummer and bassist have a more funk/ R&B/ Jazz influence.  Our lead guitar player grew up a metal head but really listens to anything under the sun.  Our singer loves alternative/ hard rock like Arctic Monkeys, Cage The Elephant, Muse, Linkin Park.

Punk Globe: Were you inspired by Bikini Kill,  The Lunachicks, L7, or Betty Blowtorch

These are definitely our lead guitar player’s kind of bands!  Our bassist and drummer are more funk/ R&B/ jazz influenced.  Our singer is into hard rock like Queens of the Stone Age and some alternative rock as well.

Punk Globe:  Both of the two  forementioned bands are pioneers and kick FUCKING ASS. Where does the band call home?

We all reside in different parts of Orange County and LA county, but no more than 25 minutes away from each other so we hang out 24/7.  We practice and are mostly in Long Beach.

Punk Globe: Tell us about your band’s name. The Anti Groupies. Did you have a run-in with Miss Pamela? Tell us who is in the band and what they play?

We got the name “The Anti Groupies” because at our singer’s first ever gig (pre anti groupies) she walked up to load in with her guitar on her back and the security guard wouldn’t let her in.  She proceeded to tell him she was in the band and he said “groupies aren’t allowed in yet”

Punk Globe: Did she mention being RIFF RANDLE ??? Have the members of The AntI Groupies played in any other bands?

Yes we have all been in a band, if not more, before the Anti Groupies.  I feel like that’s what makes our band so great because we came in with experience and knowing what kind of band we want to be in.  I also appreciate how we are all on the same page of dedication and professionalism while also having the best time.

Punk Globe: I know you recorded at 4th Street Recording Studios. Do you have any releases out? How about videos?

We have never recorded at 4th street studios.  We have recorded at Santa Cruz recordings with Jim Wirt and Franco Gravante who reside in Los Angeles and are currently producing our full length album.

Punk Globe: Duh-  Jim Wirt is Kathleen Wirt’s  ex-husband. That is where 4th Street Recording  he worked there for many years. They are still close friends.. Have you done any tours?

We haven’t been on any tours yet but we hope to in 2026!

Punk Globe: Tell us about some of your shows that you have played. Do you have any bands you enjoy playing with?

We have had a lot of fun shows, but some of our favorites have been opening up for Plush and Cherie Curie at the Whisky (2 different shows). We also had a residency at Dipiazzas in Long Beach all of 2024 and we hosted some rad shows.  Some local bands we love playing with are Girls Got Nerve, 12 Gauge Trixie, Speed of Light, Sluttony, The Reckless, Turning Jane and so many more.

Punk Globe: Joe Black, who does your publicity, also recommended you for a show that my band is playing on August 22nd at Characters in Pomona, that The White Trash Debutantes are playing. But you are booked. We have some rad  old School Punk Legends joining us…….  Definitely not The Cherry Bomb who became the Klannie Mom…

We are unfortunately unable to play this gig because we are recording with Brandy Melvile that day but we appreciate the offer!

Punk Globe: Tell the readers about plans for The Anti Groupies for the future?

Following our single releases of “Cigarette Slut” and “I Cant” we plan on releasing one more single called “Not My Problem” at the end of August and releasing a full length album at the end of September/ Beginning of October.  We also have a lot of fun shows coming up like opening up for a super group band called “Halloween Jack” on July 25th which is a band that contains Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction) , Gilby Clark (Guns N Roses), Daniel Shulman (Garbage), Eric Dover (Alice Cooper).  We also have another show on August 9th opening up for Chevy Metal at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach.

Punk Globe: Describe Yourself in three words?

Unapologetic, Fierce, Badass

Punk Globe: Punk Globe is celebrating its 48th year in existence,,  We are Old Skool. Would you like to send us a shout-out? Thanks for the interview

Yes we will promote and repost when this interview comes out!
