October 2024 – Catching Up with Singer/Bassist Mark Burgess Of The Chameleons

Catching Up with Singer/Bassist Mark Burgess Of The Chameleons

Interview By: Ginger Coyote

You may remember The legendary post-punk-guitar-band The Chameleons from their massive 1986 hit “Swamp Thing,” which still has people flocking to the dancefloor to this day (that monumental intro is a clarion call that brings the masses out from the dark corners of the club).

Punk Globe: Mark I hear that The Chameleons are back playing after a long hiatus.

Mark: Well, the band is back and released their first music in some 20 years on May 24, 2024, with the three-song EP, ‘Where Are You?’ (a small taste of an upcoming album titled Arctic Moon planned for later 2024)!

Punk Globe; Tell us about your much-anticipated tour Mark

Mark:  We have been on an extensive North American Tour that started on the West Coast and brings them, The tour will continue throughout the Midwest and southern states.

Punk Globe: Tell us about your new single

Mark: “It’s exciting to finally be putting out fresh Chameleon material for the first time in over twenty years, although initially he found it quite daunting!”

Where Are You Now ” kicks off in classic fashion, with really dense and gorgeously ringing guitars and my vocals’ iconic welcome return to the band’s classic sound of yore. Led with their trademark thunderous guitars that cut through the post-punk haze, “Endlessy Falling” encaptures the band at their most angular and anthemic with my vocals weaving in and out of the searing guitar riffs. “Forever” is a stunning acoustic, atmospheric track that captures them in a contemplative mode that offers a gorgeous close to the stunner of a collection.

Punk Globe:  You also have a full-length release coming out right?

Mark: Yes, It is called ‘Arctic Moon’ it is slated for release in late 2024.

Punk Globe: Your tour of the southern states begins in October.

Mark: Yes, we started the tour in May 2024

Punk Globe: I am sure that you and the band have been delivering the goods to your fans. Thanks for the interview, Mark.
